Have you ever wished that you could change a life? That you could have the power to bless someone in such a way that it made them feel like they were as special as everyone deserves to feel?
I have. So in 2015 I became a Fairy Godmother and started blessing young ladies and gentlemen with the opportunity to borrow gorgeous gowns and tuxedos for a Cinderella Ball that I put together. Many of those gowns came from Facebook solicitations. Even more came from a ministry who collected gowns for me knowing that they would be blessing some very special people.
I had about 12 totes of dresses, 2 totes of tuxes, tuxedo shirts, vests and ties and 4 totes of shoes all sitting in one half of my bedroom. I would make appointments and people would come to my house and I would have my son drag all the appropriate sizes out so they could be tried on by the young ladies and gentlemen. It was rare that someone didn't walk out of my house with exactly what they were looking for.
After about 2 years of this, God opened up an opportunity for us to move into a building and The Fairy Godmother's Boutique was born!
With support from our community we have been able to make a difference!
We've provided food, clothing, coats, shoes, bags and blankets for the homeless, given away books, games and educational materials to those who needed them, provided interview ready clothing for those going back to work, but also for those who needed good clothing to wear to their jobs. We have clothed children with special occasion wear and have given much needed sheets and towels to the local animal shelter.
We have continued to provide gowns and tuxes for the special needs community for the Night to Shine prom.
We lend gowns and suits to the South Jersey breast cancer coalition for their fashion show fundraiser. We were honored to provide special occasion wear for wecant2wecan's, including you runway event for special needs kids. We helped Sonshine and Smiles with their "Senior" prom at the Mount Holly Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Along with several of our faithful volunteers, we drove over there with 40 suits and almost 100 gowns as well as accessories so that the residents could be dressed up fancy for their prom!
These are just some of the events that bring us so much joy, and there's no way we could ever do these things without support.
With proms, homecoming, and other special events, we're often like a revolving door. During prom season, we had so many appointments that there were times it was hard to keep up- but we did it! So many girls and guys left our place looking their best because we were able to provide them with gowns, suits, shoes, and jewelry FOR FREE.
We made dreams come true, providing wedding and communion gowns as well as Mother of the Bride, flower girls, and bridesmaids dresses.
We host a toy drive every year to help families in the community who need a hand up and have blessed close to 200 kids a year through the generosity of our supporters.
We have many partners who serve the community, and we have become a place where ministry leaders can come to get what they need for their own charities. It has been an incredible blessing to us working together with so many others who truly care about their communities.
